Science Siminar Subsidence At Ho Chi Minh City And Solutions

Subsiding is a normal phenomenon of construction, but subsidence is a problem of building project.
Due to geological phenomenon, hydrography, subsidence have happened at cities such as Bangkok, Thailand, either at some Northern and middle provinces of Viet Nam. In HCMC, there were also had subsidence that were conducted a survey from 2010 until present.

Therefore, we must pay attention on geology composition of weak soil foundation as well as possible solutions for managing exploiting groundwater before planning cites. These are elements that directly affect to subsidence.
With a building project, subsidence corrupts itself and surrounding construct at once. Simultaneously, it damages huge property and threats citizens’ life.
Subsidence happened at Nguyen Huu Canh Street, Binh Thanh Dist. impacted on 31 surrounded houses that made them sink to one side and cracked. This lead to the damage of hundreds billion VND. The “death pit” occurs frequently on many roads during 2010 and 2011 makes the community anxious. Hundreds of domiciles sunk due to mistaken about base solution on weak soil. This is an imperative issue that need to be resolved.
For this reason, a science seminar at school level in 2012 which was about “Subsidence at HCMC and solutions” was organized by Faculty of Civil Engineering, Ton Duc Thang University whereby to enhance the quality of science research, to give lecturers a half chance to learn from each other and gradually let this activity be closely with social demands as well as to improve the effect of teaching in this University.
